Thanks, Nate.

My brother went to a Breast Cancer Awareness event on campus (MSOE) last Friday. He got a t-shirt for me that has a fantastic quote on it from Eleanor Roosevelt. "You gain strengh, courage and confidence by every experence in which you really stop to look fear in the face." With only two more days to go until the surgery I would say I'm definately at the "fear in the face" part. It's hard to understand how you can feel fear and at the same time be angry and ready to even the score.

I'm not a big fan of the unknown, but there aren't many choices here.

I've had a lot of requests for news/updates about the surgery on Thursday. My very most wonderful friend Amy has agreed to post some updates as she hears from Matt during and after the surgery.

I'll do at least one more post before the surgery. Sorry Beth, no before pictures - I've got co-workers reading this too!!

Love,
Sandy

We all know that these two days will be tough. You are absolutely amazing. I can't imagine going through this and having to wait over a month after the diagnosis. I only had to wait 10 days, and to me that was an eternity. We all know that everything will be fine-difficult, but fine in the end. You have so many friends and relatives that will help you in any way possible. We all love and support you. Mom & Steve

Sandy,

Keep up with that wine therapy that I mentioned. And keep up with the positive thoughts. I'll be with you in spirit on Thursday. From the response that I've gotten to the Breast Cancer Walk, I know that you have a huge group of friends and family that will be with you all the way.

“I want a special story.” Olivia Pelzek circa 2005/2006 several hundred times.

Alright, here it is:

Once upon a time there was a special young woman. She was a special wife, a special mom, a special daughter, a special sister, and a special friend to a whole lot of people. One day she got sick and everyone was very sad but she said, “Knock it off.” Then everyone shaped up (because they didn’t want their blocks knocked off) and pitched in to help her feel better. Then the special young woman got all better and everyone lived happily ever after. The End.

Two things make this a special story - #1, it conforms to the rigorous and challenging special story format and #2, it’s about Sandy.

Love you, Dad

I have a feeling you will come through the surgery with flying colors! I have heard of quite a few women lately that have had your same surgery and are doing just fine after just a few months. I know you will do the same. Our prayers are always with you. We will anxiously be awaiting news after the surgery.
Good luck and God Bless!!

Hi Sandy,
Having just read your dad's (and my SPECIAL brother's) comments, I am a sobbing mess. But I'll knock it off, okay? I don't want to be in trouble with you. Just know that most of the state of Illinois will be thinking about you, Matt and the girls on Thursday. We love you all very much. And Steve is right...you will live happily ever after.
Love, AJ
